Today we started our second read-aloud for Kindergarten. After completing The Boxcar Children (the first read-aloud chapter book), both Faith and I were pretty anxious to get started on the next book. Faith absolutely loved listening to the Boxcar Children and would often be left "hanging" after finishing a chapter. I particularly enjoyed leaving her in suspense, excited about continuing the next day.
We bought these mats that you can piece together for the kids quiet "blanket time." But Faith prefers to build structures out of them (when the others are in nap-time). She decided to build a boxcar one afternoon, so we finished the novel inside. It was very fun!
